I've heard of it! Della Street was Perry Mason's secretary, and I used to watch Perry Mason re-runs all the time. I don't think I've met one IRL.
I don't know if Della will make much of a comeback. Ella and Bella, along with all the Isabellas, Ariellas, and so on, may have the -ella market cornered. I can see some parents who like Della (and Nella) passing on them because they're so similar to such common names.
Della gets a thumbs-up from me. It has an earthiness and a she-sings-the-blues feel that dainty Bella doesn't match and Ella has lost. Plus, I love the nn Del for both boys and girls.
