Bee
What would you think if you met someone named Bee? Does it work as a name on its own?

I better get a can of Raid! I don't like bees.
Aw, I used to be afraid of bees...had been stung as a child...but now I enjoy observing and photographing them. They are really quite lovely and furry, actually. In close up photos, they look like you ought to pet or even comb them, depending on the species. While out foraging, bees really aren't likely to attack; even Africanized bees are no more likely to attack than "normal" bees, while out feeding/collecting, it's just when their hive is approached or if they feel particularly threatened that they are a danger. When I'm taking pictures, I find that most bees don't mind me getting the camera quite close to them, as long as I don't make sudden moves, and they don't seem to like a shadow being suddenly cast over them. Anyhow, honey is a bonus and, as they pollinate the flowers which grow the food we all eat, they are rather essential.
In a previous post about Bee, I replied that I would choose something that suggests bees to me rather than using Bee itself, but I do like the idea and imagery of bees. I wouldn't necessarily assume that's what was meant if I met a Bee, though, I would think it more likely to be a nickname. Technically, I think Bea can stand on its own, so I guess the same should go for Bee though, personally, they feel like nicknames to me.
I don't like it at all as a nn or a full name. Nothing makes it any different from naming a child Fly or Ant.
Well I happen to find bees much more appealing than flies or ants (though actually, I would totally use Ant/Ants as a NN for Anton/Anthony or Anson) so there is a difference for me.
I think Bea is better as a NN for Beatrice, Beatrix, etc. Bee is kind of cute, but as a whole name? IDK.
It would never occur to me that it was a name on its own. I would assume it was short for Beatrix or Beatrice or just the initial B spelled out, the way you sometimes see in things like DeeDee and TeeJay.
So if I met someone named Bee, I'd think "I wonder what that's short for."

I would look around nervously for siblings Wasp and Hornet.
