Jack
I've started to like the name Jack! It makes me really surprised, because I've disliked it earlier, I have thought "uuuhh, Jack the Ripper". Plus, the Swedish word jack means "gash" or "jag", which is rather unpleasant.
But I recently read a wonderful book where Jack was the name of the protagonist, plus I have the most gorgeous pic of a tiny kitten called Jack Sparrow. And it makes me think of Johnny Depp, whom I find handsome.
WDYT about Jack? It's not very common in Sweden, but I guess it may be way too common in English-speaking countries. BTW, do you think Jack is OK as a proper name, or just as a nick for John?

I think it's a nice enough name, but I'm bored with it at this point. I work with kids, and I come across way too many Jacks. It's very popular in my area. I think it works fine on its own, doesn't need to be a nickname.
All of my life I have met dozens of Jacks all of whom it has been their full name so I don't associate it with John as others of a certain generation might. I dislike it probably because of it's popularity and because there was always at least one in all of my classes as a kid. I like the association with Jack Sparrow but to be honest I'd rather name my child Sparrow than Jack.
