Jonathan
This has suddenly really grown on me. What do you think of Jonathan and nn Jon?Any MN ideas? The only one I can come up with at the moment is Jonathan Asa but I feel like it's verging on too biblical/stuffy

I think Jonathan is handsome. It's common and expected, very traditional, but that doesn't bother me too much. However, my biggest problem with the name is that I don't like any of the typical nicknames- Jon/John, Johnny, are unappealing to me. I'd probably go with Nat or Nate if I could avoid the other nicknames.

It's in my top 3 for boys, and has been for years. I don't care for the nn Jon, though.

I like it, it's one of those friendly nice guy names. My combos with it:
Jonathan Clarence
Jonathan Sallah - love it, it's one of my favorite combos ever
Jonathan Sterling
oh, I thought I had more than that... :)
For fun here are my ones with it as a mn:
Peleg Jonathan
Columba Jonathan
Dara Jonathan
Declan Jonathan
Eben JonathanI like Jonathan Asa. I don't think Jonathan has an overly-Biblical feel because it's so common, so that name isn't really overkill to me. I don't like the way Jon looks, but I love John so sound-wise I'd definitely call a Jonathan John.

Jonathan is one of the few th-sounding names I really like. I don't like Jon at all, I don't know why. It just looks prissy and sissy to me.Jonathan Blake
Jonathan Charles
Jonathan Douglas
Jonathan Eric
Jonathan Frank
Jonathan Gregory
Jonathan Kyle
Jonathan Marcus

I knew a Jonathan Richard once. Good combo.Don't enjoy Jonathan much, though. If you'd call him Jon, why not just name him John and avoid the heavy-footed rhythm of Jonathan?Perhaps this is more likely to happen in South Africa than elsewhere, but Jonathans here are often known as Jonty, which puts me right off with its perpetually juvenile vibe.

I love Nathan and Nathaniel (also Matthew and Matthias which mean the same) so liking Jonathan is logical but it is a bit common among my group of friends. I've known several Jonathans through the years and different ones have made me like the name or dislike it by turns. I dislike nn Jon because the sound is a separate name to me and in my experience Jonathans called Jon often get people mistaking and thinking their names are really John. Nickname Jonny isn't bad but the spelling does seem a bit odd.
One of my best friends growing up has a younger brother named Jonathan who she calls Nonny sometimes which I think is kinda cute. Love the name Asa but not sure it goes with Jonathan very well. One of my favorite Jonathan combos is Jonathan Garrett. Other Combo Suggestions:
Jonathan Luke
Jonathan Henry
Jonathan Brice / Bryce
Jonathan Patrick
Jonathan Miles / Myles
Jonathan Wyatt
Jonathan Casey
Jonathan Silas
Jonathan Wiley
Jonathan Andrew
Jonathan Elias
Jonathan Ezra
Jonathan Bennett
