How do YOU pronounce this name...?
Esme.
It is becoming more and more popular in the UK but I keep hearing mothers pronounce it as EZ-mee. Surely it should be pronounced EZ-may? I understand that Esmé would most definitely be pronounced EZ-may as the accent on the e indicates this pronunciation.
How do you think it should be pronounced?

I say it EZ-may. The last syllable is accented so I pronounce it like it is.
I imagine (though I might be wrong) that many moms only know it from Twilight, where Stephenie Meyer decided not to use the accent (though Bella's mother Renée got one).
I say es-may. Can't bring myself to use such a hard Z sound.

It's always EZ-may in South Africa, where it's associated with an ageing population.
I like it a lot, partly for family reasons, and wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Wouldn't take any bets based on working-class English pronunciations! I met a couple once who named their daughter Fiona and pronounced it with a Fie instead of a Fee. But that needn't stop the rest of the population from getting it right.

EZ-may. It's such a pretty name too, I love it.
I pronounce it EZ-meh.
Never having met one or heard the name, I'd guess EZ-mee. Sorry.
es-MAY (m).
This is the usual Dutch pronunciation, and I believe, closer to the authentic French pronunciation than the English pronunciation that you all have been mentioning.

Well, to be honest, I probably do tend to say EZ-mee but it's not a name I think I've ever really said out loud. I don't know any. I have heard both. It should be EZ-may if there is an accent, if there isn't then in English, I don't think it matters if it's said as EZ-mee.
Personally I pronounce is EZ-mee, I've heard EZ-may... I think, but many people I know pronounce it the same way I do: EZ-mee.
EZ-may
Don't care for EZ-mee at all.

I agree that the é would make it EZ-may however I have never heard it pronounced that way. I've only heard Ez-mee which, therefore, is how I pronounce it.
