Mozart's Piano Concerto #1 which has been affectionately dubbed the 'Elvira Madigan' because of the movie, is what comes to mind when I hear Elvira. The piece is beautiful, making Elvira seem more amiable because of the association.

I also prononuce it 'el-VEER-ah'. There is, most unfortunately, a Statler Brothers song called 'Elvira' (el-VEYE-rah) which drives home the aforementioned pronunciation. I don't find that pronunciation appealing in the least.

I think its beautiful too, so many people associate this name with Elvira (el-vy-rah) mistress of the dark though :(. I knew an Elvira (el-veer-ah) and everyone called her aloe vera. :o
