Ellie
What do you think of Ellie? Can it stand on its own? I don't really like any longer forms right now even though Elinor and Eleanor are fine.Do you think Ellie is distinctive enough from Allie? Allie is a pretty common nickname and I wonder whether they'd get confused a lot. Do you like Allie better?

I think Ellie can stand on its own. I think it's quite cute, but when I think of the name I wonder if it's too "cute" for someone to grow into.I don't think Allie and Ellie would be confused. I definitely prefer Ellie over Allie if they're both standing on their own. I don't care for Allie on its own at all.

I think Ellie is nice. I find it a bit too nicknamey to stand alone, but nicknames and full names are very popular at the moment, so it would be fine to most people.Ellie definitely sounds different from Allie in my accent, but I suppose it depends where you live. I prefer Ellie instead of Allie.

I think Ellie can, and does, stand on its own just fine, although I prefer it as a nickname. It could be mistaken for Allie occasionally, but I don't think that should be a dealbreaker. The same could be said for any two names that rhyme. Between the two, I prefer Allie (but, remember, I am an Alison, so...). I think Ellie is okay, though, just not for me. Even if I used a name like Elizabeth or Elinor, Ellie wouldn't be the nickname I'd pick for it.

To me, Ellie has an old-fashioned sweetness that Allie lacks. I still don't like it on its own, though. It's way too much of a nn, imo. I do think it's easily distinguishable from Allie. My fave combos leading to Ellie are Elizabeth Juliet and Eleanor Sophia.

1. Though it is not really my style I do think that Ellie can stand on it's own.2. I think they are separate enough to be distinct from each other.

I like Ellie on its own as well. I think it can stand as-is. Ellie has enough of an old-fashioned feel that it seems a bit stronger than Allie, which definitely sounds like a shortened name. I don't like Allie better, although it is pretty cute. I don't think they'd get mixed up all that often.

sorry, ignoreWhere I'm from, Ellie is much more common than Allie, and I like it a lot more. I think Ellie could work on its own, but it would be nicer as a nickname.

Ellie is cutesy and colorless to me. I guess it could stand on its own but it seems like every Elizabeth, Gabrielle, Isabella and Danielle growing up now is called Ellie.

I'm not sure about that. Gabrielle and Danielle aren't popular with young girls and Ellie seems forced as a nickname for them. I also think Isabella nn Ellie is quite far fetched, most will be Izzy or Bella. It also doesn't seem to be used commonly as a nickname for Elizabeth.I guess it could become pretty common on its own, but I don't really see it being used for any of the names you mentioned. Eleanor nn Ellie might become popular. Ella is popular but I've never met a single one who went by Ellie.

I used those names for examples because I have known or heard of actual girls with those names who are called Ellie. Gabrielle is pretty popular, at any rate.
There is a little Elizabeth lives down the street from my mother. She is usually called Ellie.

I prefer Ellie to Allie, which reminds me of alley.
Eliana and Eliora make frilly additions to the Ellie nn genre.

Ellie is the full name of my best friend. I once knew an Eleanor but I think she went by Elle and Eleanor more than Ellie. I think it can definitely stand on it's own though I am a little bias. I slightly prefer Eleanor nn Ellie. I have never even contemplated getting it confused with Allie - I also have never met one, whether it be a nickname or full name. I do like Allie a lot as both a full name and a nickname though.

Hmm... I like both Ellie and Allie, but maybe Ellie slightly more. I don't think it can stand on its own, though. If you're not super into Eleanor, what about Elizabeth or Elspeth or Eloise?

I like Ellie. I think of a warmhearted girl. I prefer it as a nickname, but I think it's okay on its own. When I say them out loud, I can hear the difference, but where I live, the way people pronounce Ellie and Allie sound a lot alike, so I think that a lot of people might assume that Ellie was Allie at least around here. As a full name, I prefer Ellie to Allie.

I love Ellie! I do think it can stand on it's own, but I would use it for Elizabeth.I think it is distinctive enough from Allie, and yes, Ellie is a better name.
