Of course it's usable. Why wouldn't it be? I think it fits with other classics like Joshua, Matthew, and Benjamin. I think I like it more than any of those, though. Joel Amadeus!

It's not really a name that I do think of. I neither love it nor hate it. A definite pro of the name is that it is not overly used.

It's definitely usable - my best friend's boyfriend is Joel - but because of him I think the name it stuck up, stiff, football-playing-jock-type, and very much the posh mommas-boy.
