To me, the difference between Sylvia or Silvia is like the difference between Lydia and Lidia. They seem to have different styles. I think people would more automatically spell these names with a "y", as it is more known to be spelled that way.
I know a little girl named Sylvia -- she is adorable! She spells it with a "y". I think spelling it with an "i" is pretty too, but I like the look of Sylvia a tiny bit better. Overall, a beautiful name. I think it sounds pixie-like. :)
