Imelda
What do you think of Imelda? It's been on my mind recently.

I just finished reading a book by Tana French which featured a character named Imelda Tierney, so my immediate association is with her.

I feel like it should be Grimelda and she's a "bad guy" in a Disney movie. Sorry.

I love Imelda! It's so starchy and dramatic.

...Marcos. I'm sure someone has already said that, but I haven't read the other posts yet.I don't care for it.

I went to school with an Imelda. I fell in love with its musical qualities. Then came Imelda Marcos in the 1980s and her d*mn shoes (and rampant exploitation poor Filipinos). I knew the name would be cemented in everyone (in my country)'s mind as associated with her. I made a conscious effort not to let it happen for me so I still love it. I'd be thrilled to find out there's a whole new generation growing up who don't associate her with the name. Imelda is a gem.

I think the sound of it is ugly and cold, and even though the Marcos regime is long past, her name is still synonymous with a closetful of shoes.

There was a post about this one not too long ago and I believe just about everyone associated it with Imelda Marcos. Not me though :) I really like the name and actually it makes me think of Imelda May - giving it more of a 'rockabilly' vibe than an 'evil dictator' vibe, in my mind

Am I the only one who can't help associating it with Imelda Marcos, the horrible Filipino dictator's wife with the massive shoe collection?

I actually thought of the actress Imelda Staunton first but yes, Imelda Marcos is not a great association at all.

Surprising. I'd never even heard of her until now.

Oh yesIt's one of those names like Björk that, even if you've heard of a few people with that name, your thoughts still come back to the same person.
