A girl I used to work with told me that if she ever has a daughter, she'd like to name her Silvia after her grandmother. Ever since then, Silvia has kind of been growing on me and I LOVE the nn Silvie! WDYT?1.) Spelling: Silvia or Sylvia?
2.) Do you like it? Would you use it?
3.) What do you imagine Silvia to be like?
4.) What associations do you have?
5.) Combos?ETA:
Silvia Winter
Silvia Delyth
Silvia Jane
Silvia Laurel
Silvia Temperance

1.) I'm more used to Sylvia, because the two I grew up with spelled it that way. But I could go either way.2.) Yeah, I like it. Not enough to use it necessarily, but it's nice.5.) I like SIlvia Temperance. Don't like Silvia Jane, but would love Silvia June.

I love Silvia/Sylvia! It's within my top five.1. I used to prefer Silvia, but now I prefer Sylvia. I like both, though. I like the balance of the two I's in Silvia, but I like the extra little spunk Sylvia has.
2. Yep, love it. Would use it in a heartbeat.
3. Sophisticated.
4. None, really. I guess just Sylvia Plath, but even then it's not super strong.I like Silvia Jane. Jane is one of my go-to middle names because I may use it to honor my mother.

1)Spelling: I prefer Sylvia. Silvia reminds me of “saliva”. 2)Do you like it? I loooove Sylvia! I would absolutely use it; it’s at the top of my list actually. Top 5. I am not all that fond of Sylvie, I tend not to like the French –ie forms of names, with a few exceptions. I actually know quite a few Sylvie’s around my age, but not one Sylvia of any age, this is probably due to living in a French speaking area. The possibility of Sylvie wouldn't put me off of using Sylvia but it just doesn't have that same oomph. 3)What do you imagine a Silvia to be like? I don’t really picture names as being associated with certain personalities, sometimes I meet someone and think “wow, that doesn’t fit” but I don’t think a Sylvia needs to be blonde or needs to be clever or anything like that. 4)What associations do you have? Sylvia Plath definitely, but I consider that a good thing, her writing is beautiful, tragic but beautiful. 5)My combos are:
Sylvia Iris
Sylvia June
Sylvia Philomena
Sylvia Violet

Yes, I love Silvia/Silvie! It would be at the top of my list, except for a bad association I have that is causing me hesitation at the idea of using it myself. But I would love to see someone else use it! I personally prefer the Sylvia spelling, but Silvia is pretty, too.I think Silvia Jane is super pretty, and Silvia Temperance is gorgeous. How about:
Silvia Estelle
Silvia Esme
Silvia Therese
Silvia Zoe
Silvia Violet
Silvia May
Silvia Isolde
Silvia Ingrid
Silvia RaeSilvia Sterling popped into my head too, which is probaby because I was thinking Silvia...Silver...Sterling Silver. But I have to say, I quite like the sound of the combo now :-)

Phew, I'm glad you're not actually considering Silivia.I love Sylvia (I prefer this spelling, but like both), especially with Sylvie as a nickname. Silvia Winter and Silvia Jane are both gorgeous, and Laurel is lovely on its own but too L-heavy with Silvia.

Oh, I thought you really were asking about Silivia (Silvia + Olivia?)!I love Sylvia. My grandfather's sister was named Sylvia-- she died of TB or something when she was a teenager, so I always thought it would be nice to name someone after her. I prefer this spelling, but Silvia is nice, too. I'd use maybe
Sylvia Frances
Sylvia Esme
Sylvia Esther
Sylvia Hester

From your title I thought you were considering Silivia which just looks like Saliva. Silvia is lovely though.1. Silvia is my favourite, though I like Sylvia too.
2. Yes amd yes.
3. I think a Silvia could be any kind of girl.
4. Sylvia Plath, it also makes me think of silver.
5. Silvia Jane is nice. I also love Silvia Josephine and Silvia Margaret.

Wow, that's an embarrassing typo!

I prefer Silvia, it gives me a younger and more fresh image. But it isn't exactly young or fresh either. All I can picture is a woman above 60, and then of course, the Queen in my country; Queen Silvia of Sweden (Silvia Renate if you want a combo suggestion).
I don't like the name at all, and I would never use it. I imagine a Silvia to be boring and someone who loves to complain.

1) I prefer Sylvia. I know Silvia is the original and the standard form in many languages, but it never looks quite right to me. I also like Sylvie, the French form, and I go back and forth on whether I prefer it or Sylvia. 2) I like it, but I don't know that I'd use it. My great-grandmother was a Sylva (no "I"). We were just close enough that using a Syl- name would feel like I was naming a child after her, but not close enough that I would want to do so. 3) I think of an older person with a strong personality, but a Sylvia could be anyone. I'm always surprised Sylvia isn't more popular. It seems like it should be Sophia's natural successor. 4) Sylvia Plath, "Sylvia" the comic strip, the ballet, Rhea Silvia (mother of Romulus and Remus), psychic Sylvia Browne. I feel like there's a big one I'm forgetting...My favorite of your combos is Silvia Laurel.

I like the spelling Sylvia. I don't know why, I just think it looks better.I do like it, and I love Sylvie as a nickname. However, I wouldn't use it because we have a family friend called Silvia. Also, she's an old lady so it would be kind of weird to me if I used it on a child.Due to the afforementioned person, I imagine Silvia to be an older woman, but quite willowy and sweet. That's the only association I have really. However, I consider Sylvie to be much younger sounding than Sylvia.
