Irene & Eileen
The Emina and Elina post below got me thinking about Eileen and Irene. These two are just always sort of in the background to me... what are your opinions on Irene and Eileen, and, which variant do you prefer?
Irene "ie-REEN"
Irena "ee-REH-nah"
Irina "ie-REE-nah"
Eirene - same as Irene
Eileen - "ie-LEEN"
Aileen - same as Eileen OR "ay-LEEN"
Aline - "ah-LEEN"
Irene "ie-REEN"
Irena "ee-REH-nah"
Irina "ie-REE-nah"
Eirene - same as Irene
Eileen - "ie-LEEN"
Aileen - same as Eileen OR "ay-LEEN"
Aline - "ah-LEEN"

I love Irene and Irina, and I like Eileen. Irene and its variants sound less dated than Eileen, at least to my ear.
My favorite spelling of Eileen is actually Ilene...Eileen's sound with the streamlined prettiness of Irene.

I don't mind either name, but neither is on my list. Eileen (any spelling) seems a little younger than Irene, but the name will forever lead to "Come on Eileen" getting stuck in my head.
Of all of the variants, I prefer Irina and Aline (but spelled Alene).

I adore Irene!!
I prefer Irene out of all of them. It is my sister's middle name and was my great grandmother's name. I just think it looks and sounds the best.
Irene - lovely, sophisticated, and underused
Irena - see, I'd pronounce *this* one eye-REE-na, and Irina as ee-REE-na, since Irina is Russian and every Irina I know says it that way. Interesting. ee-REH-na is very counterintuitive to me, and I prefer the aesthetics of Irina.
Irina - with the Russian pronunciation, adore it.
Eirene - love it, but would probably pronounce it eye-REE-nee.
Eileen - I think Eileen is a quietly misunderstood name. Very pretty.
Aileen - Wuornos
Aline - reminds me of saline. I prefer Alina.
