Which name do you prefer - Emina or Elina? Thoughts on either name?
I'm pronouncing them eh-MEE-na and eh-LEE-na, respectively.
I think it's pretty surprising that neither name has much use outside Europe (especially Emina, since it has the trendy Em- sound). They both seem quite Anglo-friendly, in terms of spelling and pronunciation.

I much prefer Elina because I don't particularly like the sound of Emina. Elina is my best friend's name (pronounced the Finnish way as EH-lee-nah, which you can hear here: http://www.sci.fi/~kajun/finns/female.htm ).

Elina. I think it has a far prettier sound.

I like Elina.
Elin is a pretty common name here, where Elina is more unusual. I've only known two in my whole life, one who is now 20 and another one who is 25 or there about.
Emina..Hmm. I don't hate it, but I don't exactly like it either. It reminds me too much of Amina, which to me, is very connected to Islam which I'm not a part of what so ever so to me it just feels strange to use Amina/Emina.

Emina makes me think of the word eminent. That's not a bad association, and it's still a pretty enough name, but for some reason it makes it slightly less appealing for me.
EDIT: I too do not understand how Emina = Enema. I mean, where do I begin with how they are not the same? The 'e' in emena is short. The m and n are also swapped around... and... oh, who cares? :P

I don't get "enema" from Emina at all, but I prefer Amina. Was just thinking about Elina yesterday because it was the name of one of my awesomely eccentric foreign professors. And I too have wondered why it's not more popular in general - it does seem like it would fit right it with all the other popular names now. They're both really lovely but I like Amita best of all ;)

I can see why Emina isn't more common, it sounds like 'enema', not anglo-friendly at all if you ask me, sorry! Mina is pretty, though. Elina is all right and I prefer it over Emina. It does give me a -creative/common sounds combined- vibe so I don't like it very much but it's usable. Mina and Ella are much nicer but more common. Do you like Mila? It's similar sounding and also really pretty. I once knew an Indian girl named Mena which I also like.
