Emily
What do you think of Emily? It was very overused in the 90s and is still popular now according to this website, but I've only met a few. Is it very common where you live? I'd probably use it as a middle name because it doesn't quite make my top 10, but I really like it.

I like it
Yeah, it's overused. And, yeah, I'm sick of hearing it. But it's got a pretty sound. It's soft and gentle, but still elegant and dignified. It's certainly not a favorite, but I wouldn't be too upset if I had to name my daughter Emily... as long as she could go by Emmie, which I love.
It certainly gives off good vibes, much better than, more solid vibes than Lily, Ava, or Chloe.

It's unbelievably popular. I can't believe it's been at the top of the popularity charts for as long as it has. It's a pretty name, but you'd think people would be over it by now. It's common where I live, mostly amongst young girls born 1990+.
That being said, I really like it as a middle name.

I do love the name Emily and have known a few growing up. I think it's still pretty popular here in Australia. I wouldn't use it, but I do love it.
I don't think a whole lot of Emily. It's not a horrible name. It's just boring to the max and is already becoming dated. I've a niece by the name and I still don't care for it.
I know a ridiculous number of Emilys. I counted once and the number was something like 25.
It's still a beautiful name and I do like it, but it needs a break. It would be lovely in the middle, though.

It is probably my all time favourite girl's name and has been since I can remember. It is beautiful and timeless and I just love how it sounds. It is also boring as all hell- I know so many ranging from my age down to small children. I work in a school and it is definitely one of the most common names there. I would never use it as a fn for that reason but it would be a strong contender for a mn for a future child. My go-to combo is Temperance Emily.
I like Emily. It's not exciting, but then I also like names like Olivia, Hannah, Sarah, etc. It helps that none of them are common where I live. I've never met an Emily (it would be spelled Emili here).
I do however prefer Emma to Emily, as I generally prefer -a endings and Ema is quite popular here.

Still too damn common and not pleasant to me as it's got some unknown factor that makes me not interested.

Yes, it's quite popular in my area. I've met many an Emily. I like the name, but would never consider it because of the consistent popularity for many years. Needs a rest, but as a middle name I say go for it.
Even I'm bored of it.
It's a nice enough name, it's just pretty common and therefore boring.
Personally, I find it a bit boring and overused but it's not a bad name. It's harmless and I can see people finding it pretty and Victorian.
It's very popular where I am (ranked 5 in England/Wales). A friend of mine has just named her baby Emily. I much prefer Emilia but now that is becoming popular as well.

Emily, Sophia, and Olivia
are all in the same boat for me. Nice enough names, but so overused that I would just skip right over an Emily birth announcement and not even remember that it was there.

Well said! Exactly what I think!
Emily is so boring, no personality. The name is common where I live.
*confession*
I kinda like this name.
It was nr. 2 on my list for girl names when I was pregnant with DD2.
Not to sure about the meaning (rival)
Meaning was however perfect for a book character (I used the Ancient Latin Aemilia, since this spelling was fitting for the setting of my story)
I know a few Emily's and they are all nice persons, not boring at all (not very exciting either just nice girls/women with calm and friendly personalities)

I don't like the meaning either. Weirdly enough I always thought it meant 'universal', like Emma. I will probably not use it at all anyway, it's too far down the list.

To me it matches Clara, Lillian, Anna, and Charlotte. A literary antique English (language) power name. Cute enough that unlike those others, it doesn't need to be sugared or salted (Lily, Hannah / Annabel, Claire, Charlie-UGH) to make it seem modern and youthful enough. Past its prime now obviously, but I think its appeal is basically similar to those names.
My mother suggested that I name my daughter it. I considered it for, oh, about 20 seconds... it's not very exciting to me, even though I know it is a good name and has cuteness and strength and femininity; and it has been too much of a big fad too long ago. I met a little girl named Emilia (whose name I would have thought was Amelia, if I hadn't happened to see it written down) and that seems better for the current decade ... classicky instead of antiquey.

I am not going to sugarcoat this... it's boring.
I know somewhere around ten Emily's, and even they think it's boring.
It's too popular, too "little miss perfect", too bland to be a good name. No offense to Emily's out there.
Maybe if it was used less, I wouldn't find it as boring. But because it is so popular, I'm just sick of it.

This is it! This is literally the most boring name of all time.
I have never liked this name. It's such a mumble, so bland and goody-two-shoes. It's about as white-bread as it gets. It has little to no personality for me.
