I'm always surprised that it's a female name. I used it in multiple CAFs as a boy's name because I had no idea. It seems so masculine to me, both because of the sound and because I tend to lump "bird of prey" names in with the boys.
Regardless, it's rare enough that I think it would work for either sex, and I like it quite a bit. It doesn't sound as aggressive as names like Talon or Hawk, nor as poncey and overbred as Peregrine.
