Agnes and Agatha
I have to say, I'm always drawn to the old-fashioned roughness of Agnes and Agatha. What do you think of them? Is one better than the other? Why? What nicknames would you suggest besides Aggie? I'm fine with Nessa for Agnes, but not Nessie (Loch Ness Monster).

Agnes is an incredible name. It makes me think of a ballerina. I wouldn't attach a nn to it because Agnes is so beautiful on its own.Agatha is all right. It has a kind of old-fashioned dignity to it I find appealing. I wouldn't use a nn for it, either.

I like Agnes, but I don't like Agatha at all. Agnes has a softness to it, while Agatha is heavy and stern. Like a nun.

I absolutely adore both names, especially Agatha, which has been at the top of my list for quite some time.I really like Ness as a nickname for Agnes.

I dont like either of them. The hard G sound is really harsh and unattractive and they both seem like old ladies names to me. I can't stand Aggie, for the same reasons, but Nessa is ok.

I prefer Agnes by a mile, though Agatha also has its appeal. No nickname necessary. I think Agnes sounds awesome with my last name, too.I like Agnes Matilda and Agatha Frances.

I respect both names but the "ag" sound keeps me from loving either. Of the two, I prefer the sound of Agatha. The only idea I'm getting for a nickname would be to play on the meaning with "Goody", or some other word you associate with "good", but that's not the sort of nickname you get known by in school. Oh...Agate, like the stone. I like that much better.

I prefer Agnes over Agatha -- it was my gran's name. She was from Scotland, and a common nickname used for Agnes there is the anagram of the name, Senga. I also like the Spanish form of the name: Inés. The nn Nessa is cute, or just Nes / Ness. There's also Nancy and Annice.
