Kitty gmvThough Kathy and Kate are my own personal favourites. Kathy especially, just because it's so underused nowadays.

Katia/Katya is my favoriteKitty drives me insane, and I hate Kit. Kay is cute! I also adore Rina (REEN-ah) as a nickname...yeah, it's pushing it, but it's close!

I don't think Katharine should even have a nn maybe Kate or Katie but you don't like those names. :PMum to Hayley Anne

Traditionally in Britain, Kath is the working-class nickname and Kitty as the aristocratic one. Because of that, Kitty sounds a bit affected to me. Katy is the most natural. You could consider ...KaddyEh ... That's all I've got lol. It's been so widely used for so long, that I think Katherine's had every plausible nn squeezed out of it already! All the people I know who have nicknames, acquired them as teens and students from friends. Their parents wouldn't have chosen them in a million years, and hate them, probably. So I wouldn't get too set on any nickname. The chances of the child actually using it past a certain stage aren't great. The chances of liking the nickname they do use are even less, which is one argument for using a name people won't shorten. (That's what puts me off Katerina. I love it, but not Kat.)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I love Kitty, Kitsie, and Kay best of any, I think. Katrin, Katty, and Kix would be cute, too.Actually, I really like Kix. I don't know why it appeals to me so much, but I really, really like it, heh. Maybe it's the influence of my favourite cereal.ArrayETA: I know a Catherine called Cassie, so I think Kassy could work for Katharine--as could Kizzie or Kiki.

Kathy is American's "Kitty"Except I tend to see a middle-aged woman, not an old woman. It's nice, but it's common, and carries a certain perception that I don't think will be overlooked. My niece has a "Vicky" in her class...and I just cannot see that as a young girl's name. I have no problem with names of the elderly - but middle-aged names.. then I have a problem.Go figure.

I also like Kit-Kat and Kitten."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

I think Kit-Kat is cute, but to be used only by close family and friends. In the movie "Mystic Pizza", one character is named Kat(for Katherine), and at one point one of her friends calls her "Kitty-Kat-Kat".

I love Kit-Kat.I'm glad to find someone else who loves it. Its too much of a pet-name, though, to be used outside of the house.

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOUI forgot to mention this on my post , but in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You ... isn't that girl named Katherine and they call her KITTY , KAT , and KIT-KAT?? (Julie Styles cahrater I think)

Please don't shout. There's really no reason to type in all caps that way. In internet communities it's considered the equivalent of shouting, and it's rude. Just so you know. :-)

Whoops!I just did that so you would know it was a movie and so you wouldn't think I was being hateful when typing "10 things I hate about you"
Sorry.

If you had typed it in lower caps, I would have thought of the movieBy typing in upper-caps, I thought it was a mean post.

No problem, I was just letting you know. :-)gg

Kit — ok, i've met a very nice Kit, but I still don't like the name.Kay — Sorry, but i cannot think of Kay as a nn for a child. All the people who are named Kay that i know are adults.Kat — Wonderful! Kitty — fine

Please , don't use the NN Kitty. It sounds like an old woman. But Kit is cute.
Why not go in a different way and try:
Rain , Rayne , Rine , Rynn , Rin , Rinn or Ryan (kathaRINE)

I don't want something that sounds stupid.Ryan - a boy's name.
Rayne - Rain from the sky
Rynn - trendySorry to be blunt. As for a name "sounding like an old woman" - I'd rather that then have her called something that has no history.

OKAYWell , I'm sorry but everytime I go to the nursing home their are a cicle of old woman and atleast one is called Kitty. I'm sorry if you don;t like the idea of using the RINE instead of KATH but I was just trying to help. ( I still think RIN is cute)

I have a friend called Erin and we always call her Rin.

That's quite fine. And it's fine if you think Rin is cute.
