I know a Jennifer Sidney who was named after her father, Sidney. So it doesn't bother me that it's a bit of a gender-bender. But I don't like it and wouldn't use it: Sid is nasty, there are better Australian cities to name people after, and if you don't watch yourself it can easily emerge as Cindy by mistake.

I kinda like Sydney. For a boy or girl.

I'm tired of it, tbh. I think it's worn out now, whether for a boy or a girl.

To be honest, it's probably my least favorite girls' name. It's awkward to pronounce, like a mispronunciation of Cindy, and has an almost nasally sound. The inevitable nn Syd/ Sid is just awful. It's not quite as bad on a boy (only the Sidney spelling), but I still don't care for it at all.

Sydney used to be my favourite name for a boy, I always thought Sidney was a dated way to spell it and loved Sydney. I never really considered it for a girl and was disheartened to find that most people would think Sydney is female.
Love Sydney for a boy. Like Sidney for a boy. Dislike both Sydney and Sidney for a girl.

I think it's really goofy on a boy, but I don't mind it with the nn Sid. Only spelled Sidney on a boy, though. I don't like it on a boy, but wouldn't mind meeting one, it's not horrible or anything.I like Sidney on a girl, without the nn Sid. It just looks better spelled like this.I don't really care for the Sydney spelling. Definitely not on a boy. I don't mind it on a girl but wouldn't use it. The city is really beautiful, though. It's very 90s dated, but getting less and less common and will probably be out of the top 100 in 5 years.

I don't hate it but it has a cold, sneaky sound to me, at least it does for a girl. On a boy, Sidney and Sydney just sound like a nerd and a doofus. A boy who wears thick glasses smudged all over, his pants hiked up to his armpits and is always tripping over his own feet.

I'd love to meet that adorable-sounding male person you just described!
