Sylvia
I'm really liking this right now. My favorite combo is Sylvia Kathleen, but I've also thought of Sylvia Louise (to honor my mother) or Sylvia Diane,to honor his (Josh dislikes this idea). Do you think of Louise as a filler mn...and if you do, where do you live? Is it considered filler in the US, where, to my knowledge it's not so common as Marie, and Anne, etc? What are some other names in the style of Sylvia? I think it fits the current "old is new trend" but I don't know that it's so common as Olivia and the like. Thanks!"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

I LOVE the name Sylvia! I had a friend named Sylvia in high school. She was very pretty and sweet.
I don't think of Louise as a filler middle name at all, especially since it is a family name for you. Sylvia Louise is very nice. Sylvia Kathleen is better, but I don't care for Sylvia Diane at all. The styles seem to clash somehow.
Go for Sylvia! It's gorgeous, and very underused!

I like all 3 Sylvia combos, but I think I like Sylvia Louise the best. As far as I know, Louise is more of a filler mn in the U.K. than it is here in the U.S. I'm sure there are a few girls here, young and old, with the mn Louise, but it's nothing like Marie, Ann, Lynn, Leigh, Michelle, Nicole, Renee, and now Elizabeth, Grace, and Rose. BTW, I love Sylvia and other names I consider to be 'old-fashioned but classy' and not yet overused. :b Some other suggestions along the same lines...

Frances
Gwendolyn

Sylvia is a nice name except I like the spelling Silvia or Silvie.Louise is a bit of a filler middle name. I use it a lot for middle names.

Sylvia is one of those overlooked gems that needs to be rediscovered. "What light is light if Sylvia be not seen? What joy is joy if Sylvia be not by?" It's known, but not overly popular like Olivia, etc. I've always wondered why the french form of the name, Sylvie, didn't catch on more. It also makes a cute nn for Sylvia, by the way. I've seen Louise used more frequently as a mn than a fn, but I still wouldn't say that it is a filler mn. It's not nearly as popular a mn as Marie, Anne, Lynn, etc.Sylvia Diane / Diana is lovely. It ties in the Roman aspect of Sylvia nicely. Other suggestions:Sylvia Astraea (good for a Virgo child)
Sylvia Aurelia / Aurelie
Sylvia Camilla / Camille
Sylvia Maia
Sylvia Patricia (= a noble forest)
Sylvia Virginia
Sylvia Frances
Sylvia Catherine
Sylvia Lois (variant of Louise)
Sylvia Rosamund
Sylvia Rosalind (2 Shakespearean characters)
Sylvia Imogen

Thanks so much! I was thinking that Sylvia Louise loosely translates to "forest warrior" which isn't bad to me, it's strong while still being pretty. I really like Sylvia Patricia and Sylvia Blythe."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Louise comes off as fillery to me, because while it's not so common as Marie and Anne, it's definitely been used as a filler for a lot of little girls.I don't like Sylvia Louise in any case, since the L's are a tidge too close together for me. Sylvia Diane sounds nice, as does Sylvia Kathleen. Sylvia is absolutely gorgeous, in any case.Names similar in feeling (in my mind--YMMV):

Hopefully I can talk the man into Diane. I think it's pretty, but he's not overly fond of his mother. Winifred is one of my favorite names, and he actually suggested it, but I almost think it works better on a cat than an actual child."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

No it is not as common as Olivia and in my opinion it is a very pretty name and I do think it fits into the "old is new". I like Kathleen paired with it and even Louise. But , I dont' care for Diane.
Louise is almost as common as Anne , though , it is much cuter.

Names that remind me of the name Sylvia:
Y'vette
Y'vonne
Lavign
Abril
Livvy
Elaine
Lyaney

*sighs*Sylvia is making the jump that Olivia did, I think. :-(

Well, according to the SS list, it's actually falling. And it never made any significant jumps. That's something, right?"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

It is...But when a name pops up so much on nameboards, its a sign that it will jump.

I love SylviaAnd the middle name Louise works well with it. Just like Leona, Sylvia is one of those classics in need of revival. They are much better than those trashy unisex names which are quite popular now.I would go with Sylvia Louise. How About Sylvia Josephine?

One of my friends name is Sylvia Annaleiseimo, Louise is pretty common in the midwest and midwest-south but is seen as a... country name for lack of better words. Think Thelma and Louise. After living in Miami and almost not hearing it all, I find it's counter-part Louisa more popular.
