Pierce vs. Piers
My DH likes Pierce. I like the name but I am leaning more towards the medieval spelling Piers.
Any thoughts on the name? Preferences regarding spelling?

It's not just spelling, it's pronunciation! Pierce = stab a small hole in. Piers = peers, as in: looks through half-closed eyes.Give me Piers any day!

It's probably my accent but I say Pierce with a soft "s" sound and Piers sounds more like PEERZ. With that in consideraction I like Pierce better.

Piers - I fell for this name after reading "Piers Plowman" at school. A friend had the same reaction, and called her son Piers

I adore just about anything medieval. Piers for me. Peter is my all time #1 favorite for a boy. So any variant starts with a leg up. But I do really love the sound of Piers anyway. It's so clear and intelligent sounding, like Peter. My only fear is that here in the U.S. people will pronounce it with a "z" sound on the end, not an "s." I was happy to see Piers Morgan begin to become well known because I thought everyone would pronounce it the British way. Alas, the few times I've heard his name pronounced here it's been with a "z."

Er ... Piers with an s instead of a ce actually is pronounced with a z! In British English, anyway. So, Piers Morgan's name is actually being pronounced in the British way.Sorry to pop your balloon.

I definitely prefer Piers, which is less violent and more dignified than Pierce.
