Celebs BA
Graeme Smith, SA cricket captain, and his wife Morgan, formerly Deane (some kind of Irish singer - sorry I'm so vague)have named their first child Cadence Christine Smith.I suppose Cadence is fashionable and a tribute to her musical mother, but Cadence Smith does have pronunciation challenges built in, especially if you're in a hurry.Any thoughts?

As Bear said, at least it's Cadence, and not Kaydaunce or Caedynce or some other horror - and at least there is actually a reason for a musical name. Nmsaa, but not that bad.

And this is why I fear BA threads. At least Cadence is spelled correctly. I'll give that to the parents. I do get the musical connection with the name Cadence, but I can't get over the military band playing in my head when I see it. Plus, I always suspect it's a not so clever way of using the nn Cadie when they really mean Katie. But that's just cynical me.Christine would have made me much happier, as the fn. It's so underused as a fn.

Cadie doesn't happen where I live - I knew a Katie once who signed herself KT, but the t sound here is always and only a t. Glad I can reassure you about that! That said, I rather agree about the prevailing lack of Christine people. Or Christina - flows better with Smith to my eyes and ears.
