Re: Carrick
I don't know about Scottish. But Carrick is the Anglicized form of the Irish word carraig, meaning rock. I have a book on Irish place names and their roots. Places like Carrickfergus, Carrignavar and Carrick-on-Suir are listed.I don't know how I feel about it as a boy's name. Normally just about anything that reminds me of Ireland is a shoe-in. And I like names from nature. I think it's the "Carri-" part of it that is getting to me. It makes me think of Carrie, the girl's name. Kerrick doesn't help because that makes me think of Kerry, which I also associate as a girl's name. The "-ick" ending on Carrick is definitely masculine sounding so I'm torn. On balance, Carrick is so close to a top four name of mine, Cormac that I don't think I'll really put in much effort to make it 100% masculine in my mind. Sorry. :-/
