Violet
Lately I've been wondering if Violet is too much of a novelty name. Sometimes I feel like it doesn't have any real substance ot that on a grown up the name would seem very odd. I used to love it in the combo Felicity Violet, but now I'm having second thoughts. Am I just overthinking?I'm also worried about it's trendiness (after Garner) anxiously awaiting the 2005 name data to be released to see what the numbers are, so that could be a factor too.So what do you think? Is Violet a novelty name without substance?

Certainly not! Violet is a lovely name that's refreshing in a classical way. I definitely don't think it's a facade of a name. As for popularity, I don't believe it'll ever reach the heights of Emily or Jacob, even if used by a celebrity. It's one of those names that's not cut out for everyone to use. Felicity Violet is stunning. I would keep it around a bit longer. :)

I think it definitely has substance. It's recently has risen toward the top of my list, but I prefer it as a fn. But I worry, too, about the trendiness factor because of Baby Affleck. :(

Violet's already pretty popular in some places. I live in So Cal, and I know of 3 girls under the age of 6 named Violet. Seems to be one of those trendy names for people looking for something completely non-trendy and old fashioned in the line of Camille and Audrey.
With Jennifer Garners child & the movie Ultraviolet (character named Violet), I expect Violet to become quite popular (it's already 590 on the SS chart for 2004), Having met little girls named Violet, I really truly hate the name. Mainly because they all end up with the nickname Vi, and it just is such a proper and demure name on a modern child. It seems a bit unfair if the girl is a bit of tomboy or isn't quite so prim and proper when she grows up. Dunno why the name drives me crazy, maybe because the families who tend to use it have extremely snoddy kids.

No, I think Violet is a lovely name. I tend to think of names without substance as being more like made up names (e.g. Heavenleigh) or drastically overused names (e.g. Kate, Jennifer).
