I've always liked Jared. I find it under-appreciated these days where I live. As a well-known Biblical name, it doesn't seem dated even though it's less popular than it used to be. As far as spelling goes, I would stick with Jared. Jarrod seems a bit more dated.I've encountered people named Jarrod, Jared, etc., in newspapers and such, but I don't recall ever meeting one.
