Nah, I prefer it on a girl. I think it sounds like it's missing something on a boy, but on a girl, it feels complete. I'm not sure why that is.
It's pretty common, yeah. In my age group, at least. There were a lot of guys named Taylor; I think it started being used for girls more around the early 90's, but I could be wrong.
