Re: Emmett
in reply to a message by Lily
I think of Irish patriot Robert Emmet (with one "t") or poor Emmett Till, the (U.S.) civil rights icon. I've never read the Twilight books, but I am aware that there is a character in them that is driving the current Emmett trend. Too trendy? Perhaps, but it's not the worst trend out there. Those books have brought new life into some great old classics like Jasper, Esme and Rosalie, so I'm not totally down on them [Renesme (?) notwithstanding]. Harry Potter too. I love the "Em-" sound at the beginning of Emmett too. I wouldn't say it was "too soft." If the popularity is bothering you, what about Emmerich / Emeric instead? It starts off soft with the "em-" sound, but ends with a powerful "k" sound. Sort of a mixed bag. Anyway, I find it very attractive and romantic sounding. Just a thought.
