Greenleigh
I just heard a lady mention that she would like to name her first daughter "Greenleigh" and I honestly almost choked. So needless to say I don't like it...but do you?

If I were you, I'd just tell her "No, Greenleigh is not an appropriate name for a baby, think of something else."
That's horrible.
I know a Greenleigh. She's seven. I cringe every time I call her name.
Well, it's better than Orangeleigh and Blueleigh.
That's really everything I have to say.

But *what* makes it better than Orangeleigh and Blueleigh? That is the question.
Because seriously, I think Greenleigh is so so much better than either one of those, to the point that I like Greenleigh and would wet my pants laughing at an Orangeleigh or a Blueleigh, and I'm trying to figure out why.

I think it's because of the idea of a green lea (meadow). I'm pretty sure that's the inspiration for the names Greenlee etc
But it does sound like greenly, i.e. in a green manner. How greenly grow the grasses, or something. haha.

I think...
It might be because Green is a surname and a common element in surnames, but orange and blue aren't. We're more used to hearing "green" names but not "orange" or "blue" ones.

But Blue is a surname also!
Way less common though
Did she watch 'All My Children'?
There was a character named Greenlee on that show, but I can see the name becoming popular regardless. It has that trendy sound.
Personally, I don't think it's that bad. I've heard much, much worse, anyway. And the name gives me lush, green imagery, so that's a positive.

I was going to ask this. And I think Greenlee was her mother's maiden name, so it made sense on the show. IRL, I don't like it at all.
I immediately thought the same thing.
I met a baby named Greenleigh when I lived in Texas.
It's flakeigh and goofeigh. Floofy, and also gakey. I thought so then, and I still think so.
But it's not as annoying as, say, Calliope, and not half as painful as, say, McKinleigh.
So ... okay, if you wouldn't mind going through life with the name Greenleigh, I guess you may as well use it for your daughter. There's a decent possibility that she might actually enjoy it, even though I don't.

Hmm I don't think it's horrible. I actually kind of like it. It makes me think of a forest.
final answer: dislike but not repulsed
On the one hand, it sounds so friendly. Like Greensleeves or green leaves. On the other hand, it's ridiculous. :) As a middle name, anything is fair game in my books. But as a first name... I'm going to say dislike but not repulsed.

I think this was a female soap opera character but I can't remember wich show. I think it's stupid anyway.
You know, I do. I do like it. And I'm usually the first one to dislike new-fangled names for girls that sound like surnames, which Greenleigh certainly does. But there's something about it I like. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "Greensleeves", the old Elizabethan song. And I really like that image. So while I wouldn't want to encourage the motivations that no doubt caused her to come up with this name, (new, created, surname-sounding, oh so UUUNEEEK), I encourage the name itself!
I like it the idea, but I hate "leigh" names. Although Greenley doesn't fare much better, I'm afraid.
