Hard to pull off in real life without a resounding Italian surname. Wait. This strikes me as unfair. Southern European female names are not only passable, but sometimes quite popular, like Isabella or Francesca. In theory it should hold true for masculine names as well.
As for the name itself, I adore Julian for a boy. It's amazing how adding one sound to the end of it completely transforms it. Julian is measured and calm. Giuliano is fireworks.
I do like the Italian "Giu-" spelling in Giuliano, Giuliana, Giulia, Giulietta, etc.
