Leviticus
Do you guys think Leviticus would make a cool name? Or do you think it's too weird/cheesy/religious/something else?
Replies
Leviticus is definitely too weird and religious for the reasons others have mentioned. I think Lazarus would make a more acceptable substitute.
all connotations aside
All connotations aside...I do like the sound. I've always like Levi and Atticus has been growing on me lately. Leviticus has components of both. And it just kind of bounced on your tongue.
But yeah, in real life there's not real an "all connotations aside" button. So not really usable I guess.

I SO agree. I really like the sound. If only it wasn't the creepiest bible-book that homophobes love to refer to.
My mom met a boy named Leviticus a number of months ago, but he went by Levi. He had a brother named another bizarre book of the Bible, but I don't remember. (Maybe Exodus?)
I'm not a fan of Leviticus at all.
Especially when considering what all is in that particular book. I mean, it says it's okay to sell someone into slavery; not to mention the grounds it provides for some people to attempt to justify homophobia.
I don't want that even remotely associated with my child.

Not cool. Not even weird, cheesy or religious. But it would make the parents appear ... contented to remain ignorant, I suppose.
My thoughts exactly...

It's too far religious for my liking.
Don't forget brother Exodus and sister Deuteronomy.
cool it, kitty.

...or components, you might consider mimicking it with something like Levi Atticus or Levi Marcus or Levi Lucas. Just an idea. :)

Thou shalt not rise this name above the level of GP.

It sounds pretty cool, and could work I think as a character name, but there is WAY too much negative connotation that goes with it.
Well, if I didn't know about all the crazy stuff that is in Leviticus I'd think it was too religious for my tastes, but mostly harmless. Leviticus "Levi" could be a 'biblical hipster' sort of name. However, because of all the homophobic associations and other random nonsensical things in Leviticus I wouldn't want someone to actually use the name.
Too tied to the Bible.
Answer your own question by reading it....
(YOU WONT LIKE IT ANYMORE)
man that's my least favorite book of the bible. By least favorite I mean "favorite to hate."

well, it sounds pretty
but unfortunately I think it's way too laden with negative associations to be used. Too bad! It really does have some cool sounds in it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Leviticus is one of the books often cited by deranged fanatics as biblical justification for homophobic and other discriminatory vitriol.

Too religious. Makes me think of harsh, senseless rules. Makes me think of homophobia, because homophobes love to quote Leviticus.
This
I'd assume the parents of a Leviticus were scary, intolerant, and fanatically religious.

Amen (pun intended :p).

I definitely posted that tattoo pic on my blog one time because how much of a douchebag can one man really be?
Apparently more than I initially judged.

It's way over the top and "look at me!"
Waaay too much. I would assume a Leviticus' parents were extremely heavily religious.
I think it would be too much.
