I like it. I have met a lot of people named Melissa, so I wouldn't use it myself, but if you don't know many or don't care about it being popular among people in their 20s-40s, I say go ahead and use it.

It sounds close enough to names that are still popular, such as Alyssa, that it doesn't strike me as all that dated sounding.
