I've always liked it for its retro charm. And my mother knew an older lady whose names were Zoe Mabel, which is delightful - Mabel Zoe is also good. I was at school with a Mabel Leigh who went by Leigh; there must have been a strong family tradition because her elder sisters were Stephanie Leigh and Eileen Mabel! I do prefer Mabel with Zoe ... and I'd like May as a nn better than the hesitant Mabie.

Oh, I was thinking of Mabie as more of an around-the-home kind of nn. It would sound a trifle odd in public. If I called her anything outdoors other than Mabel it would be Mae. I love that spelling.
