Ursula (inspired by Ismene)
Many of you know I have a thing for Ursula. I try to keep a lid on it, but yesterday Ismene presented us with the combination Ursula Sylvie. I gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up. And then I couldn't get Ursula out of my mind. So here are a few Ursula combinations for your perusal. Some were given to me by this board. (Thanks!) What do you think of them? They are not for an actual child. These are just for fun. But could you see any of them working in the real world anyway? Do you have any of your own to share, realistic or GP? Any thoughts, good or bad, are welcome.Ursula Blaithin ("blah-HEEN")
Ursula Brid ("breed")
Ursula Bronwen
Ursula Bryony
Ursula Capucine -- nod to Wordsmith
Ursula Clothilde
Ursula Dagmar
Ursula Gaenor / Guinevere
Ursula Ganymede
Ursula Ghislaine
Ursula Gobnait
Ursula Gwyneth
Ursula Hazel
Ursula Jacomina
Ursula Kay -- for Ursula K. LeGuin fans
Ursula Magdalen / Magdalene / Madeline
Ursula Mary / Maureen / Mimi / Mitzi
Ursula Margaret / Marjorie
Ursula Maud(e)
Ursula Meadow
Ursula Mor / Morag
Ursula Morwen
Ursula Myfanwy -- how's that, PantheraVirgo? :-D
Ursula Pauline
Ursula Phoebe -- I know, but I learned about Friends/Phoebe's sister after I came up with the combo (does Ursula Belphoebe work better?)
Ursula Rosemary
Ursula Sabine
Ursula Sioned
Ursula Valkyrie -- the guiltiest of GPs
Ursula Verdad
Ursula Vered
Ursula Winter
Also, I can't recall who on these boards came up with Ursa November. But I wanted to give that person kudos. I have an ever tougher time coming up with Ursa combos. I don't think I could do better than Ursa November.

Coincidentally...There was a contestant on Jeopardy named Ursula today! What are the odds!?That's only the second (non-famous) Ursula I've ever see in real life

I came across a check-out girl named Ursula. I couldn't believe my eyes. And she was young. :-DA few years back on another site, a (U.S.) woman named a dd Ursula Muriel. It can happen.

Hey, sometimes they surpise us. :-) I look forward to meeting your little Ursula soon. You are now committed to the name. :-P

I don't know... pretty much all my friends would get Ursula/Phoebe. :P I think since we all grew up with Friends, it would be more apparent.

I wouldn't use it on any theoretical children myself, but it's nice enough. I think of the Shakespeare character before the Disney villain, but I doubt the latter association will cause problems as time continues to press on. Ursula Blaithin
Ursula Clothilde
Ursula Ghislaine
Ursula Magdalen
Ursula Myfanwy
Ursula Sabine
Ursula Sioned
Ursula Valkyrie -- GP!

Yay. Another member of Team Ursula. Thanks!

Yay, some love for Ursula!I've actually loved this name since I was a kid - after hearing it in "The Little Mermaid." Yes, as a child I loved the name of the octopus-witch. I was weird.Ursula Sylvie is quite pretty. Of your combos I also like:
Ursula Bryony
Ursula Hazel
Ursula Magdalen
Ursula Sabine (beautiful!)One of my personal favorite combos at the moment happens to be Ursula Lysandra.

Admirable. A contrarian, namenerd of a kid. I'm loving it. :-) Ursula Lysandra is romantic and epic. Anything remotely to do with mythology usually hooks me right away. I'm off to rate your personal short name list right now. Thanks for your input with Ursula. :-DETA: Elinor Freyja Ceridwen is a fabulous combo. Fun list all around.

Ursula Gobnait. Gobnait. Gobnait. I don't know if it's one of the coolest names I've ever seen or one of the weirdest. Gobnait. It certainly makes an impression and Ursula Gobnait is defintitely a wow-combo.
I'm not really a fan of Ursula but I think it's a fun name. It has so much personality and if I ever meet a little Ursula I think I would be pleasantly surprised. I do prefer Ursa though.

And that's all I ask. Life is good. I know Gobnait will never bring home first prize at the fair. But she has something to offer Ursula, a unique perspective. I'm glad you see her hidden charms -- hidden way, way, way far away. But they are still there. :-PThanks for the feedback. It's all appreciated. :-D

Ursula Edwige -- is there anything greater than Edwige?
Ursula Francoise -- wait, maybe Francoise is -- that "swahz" is irresistable to me
Ursula Maeve
Ursula Joan -- aw, my favorite aunt -- I miss her
Ursula Saidhbh -- neat! Thanks so much for the combos / feedback. It's always much appreciated. :-)

Or course you know I'm a serious Ursula lover as well :) I so wish I could talk my SO into it because it would for sure still be on my short list :( Some combos I keep in mind are Ursula Briar, Ursula Mary (thought I like the flow of Mary Ursula better), Ursula RuthMy thoughts on some of your lovely combos....Ursula Bryony - I love how medieval it sounds
Ursula Ghislaine - oo I've love this one ever since I first saw it on this board
Ursula Gwyneth - Gwyneth Ursula has been on my own list before...... get your own combos! :P
Ursula Kay - I think I've considered this one before also because my mom's MN is Kay
Ursula Meadow - they fit each other very nicely in an off-kilter sort of way. The imagery is nice
Ursula Winter - sounds like a name from a fairy tale :)

Are you in it with PantheraVirgo? No Ursula Gwyneth / Gwyneth Ursula for me either? You two are tough.I'll just have to take my Ursula Briar and go home now . . . . :-D Thanks for the feedback. Ursula lovers, unite! You have nothing to lose but that d*mned Disney flick.

I love Ursula. As I'm pretty sure I've already told you. Not enough to ever consider using IRL, but enough so that I'd be over the moon to hear of someone else using it.Actually it was Sylvie Ursula, which I think is gorgeous, but I'm really liking Ursula Sylvie too. From your combos, I'm really liking Ursula Hazel and Ursula Winter and Ursula Meadow. I think Ursula Hazel, as well as Ursula Mary, Ursula Margaret would work the best for a real life child....I think it needs something simple and mainstream to balance it out. My ideas, some more realistic, some just for fun:Ursula Lyric
Ursula Carys
Ursula Xanthe
Ursula Opal
Ursula Odette
Ursula Seraphine
Ursula Lilac
Ursula Maeve
Ursula Genevieve
Ursula Hannelore
Ursula Liesel
Ursula Cecily
Ursula Willow
Ursula Faye
Ursula Zoe

Apologies to IsmeneAck. Sylvie Ursula. Sorry to Ismene. See how my Ursula obsession takes over everything?I'm glad you like Ursi so much and even focus on the more realistic combos. That shows real promise for her future. My favorites from your list:Ursula Xanthe (initials U.X. would be great.)
Ursula Maeve (bad-a$$ Irish mythological queen meets the Big Dipper)
Ursula Solveig (so musical)
Ursula Romy (spunky)
Ursula Pax (Ursula packs a wallop)
Ursula November
Ursula Leonie (love! with the French accent. Bear meets lion. Cue the tigers.)Muchas gracias. :-)

Aw thanks! So glad you like Sylvie Ursula!Ursula Faye is really nice and I'm not really a Faye fan in general. Ursula Romy is great too - two names I could NEVER use IRL :(

BAHHHHCAPUCINE! AAAUGH! I LOVE IT. I seriously thought I was the only one on the board who was into Capucine. :D But Ursula Myfanwy is... well. "Breathtaking" doesn't begin to cover it. ;) I actually really like Ursula Sabine. She's a badass woman. I picture her as about 5'11 and built like an Amazon, and she'll kick your butt from here to Singapore. Ursula Vered, Ursula Bronwen, and Ursula Morwen are also quite lovely.Seems like Welsh names work really well with Ursula. Perhaps Ursula Meinwen, Ursula Carys, Ursula Llinos? Or other Celtic names... Ursula Liadan springs to mind. Ursula Gwendolen, Ursula Mairead? Ursula Wilhelmine? Ursula Laerke? Too much -la- in two names? Others... Ursula Francine, Ursula Nicolette, Ursula Svetlana, Ursula Danae, Ursula Rosalind (I prefer that to Rosemary), Ursula

You are evilYou know my weakness for Ursula and you pile on combos like Ursula Francine, Ursula Svetlana, Ursula Dagny, Ursula Yocheved, etc? Have you no shame? I have no words for how low you will go to thwart me. But can you go a little lower? Please? :-) Yes. (Thank Heavens) Ursula Wilhelmine is cat-nip to this bear. The initials U.W. are impossible to resist. Ursula Liadan is fantastic. And Ursula Mairead is calling me home. Ursula Carmen Miranda? Ursula Sage gives me courage to consider Ursula Saga. I've recently fallen under Saga's spell but I can't quite find the right partner for her. Credit Wordsmith with the Capucine combo. 1950's French supermodels are his thing. :-P

. . . and has a suspiciously 1930s radio-villain laugh. I like it.

I just can't get past the connotation it has with The Little Mermaid :( I can't think of it in an un-biased viewpoint because of that. Aside from that, I generally don't like the ER-soo sound it has in the beginning.
Ursula Winifred sounds pretty, though.
vote up1
OK. I get that. The earlier the negative image is imprinted in the mind, the harder it is to shake. And not everyone can like the same names. But at least you gave me lovely Ursula Winifred. I'm in love with her already. Thanks! The ability to find good combinations in spite of disliking a name is the sign of a true namenerd.

Ursula always interests me because I'm never sure what to think about it. I wouldn't say that I like it, but it intrigues me with all the various images and feelings and general butt-kickingness it has wrapped up in there.Of those combos I really like Urusla Brid, Ursula Gaenor / Guinevere, Ursula Gobnait, and Ursula Vered. Ha, Urusla Verdad. Makes me think of my high school Spanish teacher, he said "verdad?" after everything. Also I cannot separate the Urusla Andress association. So I want to make the combo Ursula Honey, but that's just terrible isn't it?
vote up1
Lol at the Spanish teacher association. Hey, I'll take an Ursula fan any way I can get them. And if Ursula Honey / Ursula Andress does it for you, then fine and dandy with me. :-) Glad you liked a few and thanks for the feedback.
