Lola
This used to be one of my favorites. WDYTO Lola? I thought it would get extremely common but it fell quite a bit in 2011 which was unexpected. I thought it would rise, just like Violet and Lucy, and end up in or near the top 100.
Do you think that people think of it as a stripper's name? Opinions on Lola? Have you heard it more recently?

I think Lola is awesome!
I like it but I find it nicknamey and slightly stripperish. I'd use it on a pet rather than a child, or as a nickname.
I like it. The only Lola I know is my grandma's aunt. I've never thought of it as a stripper's name.
I think of it as sort of a stripper's name, but more as an aging floozy type name. Like a fifty-to-sixty-year-old woman who is running to fat, but still prances around in skin-tight jeans and spike heels, has huge dyed or bleached hair full of spray, too much makeup, thinks she's really hot but her style is actually outdated, hangs around at bars drinking and laughing too loud, thinks the young men are crazy over her but they are really laughing at her behind her back because she's pathetic and deluded.
It is still surprising to me that Lolita made the top 1000 after the book and movie had been released. It has a lovely sound but I'd never use it. It was as high as 400-something in the 60s.
Yeah, it is surprising. I really love the book, but she's not exactly a character I'd want my child to take after!
I used to dislike it and see it as stripper-ish but I quite like it now. I know two little girls with the name and they have given me a new impression. I think it sweet and it will age well. It is a bit too insubstantial for me to consider myself though.
Before I switched to my middle name, most people used to call me Lola. I HATED it- but not as much as I hated my given first name so I let it slide. I always thought of it as stripperish and silly sounding, and it still strikes me as that. My friend is actually a stripper and thats the name she uses for work, and she said it's one of the more popular choices.
Plus, everyone would sing the songs at me, which got old quickly.
So no, I definitely wouldn't chose it.

All I think of when I hear it is Copa Cabana. And since it starts with "her name was Lola, she was a showgirl..." I think of that sort of person. However, I don't think that's really a problem with it, I can totally see it on a little girl. It fits trends. Maybe that song holds it back a bit?
In 5th grade (I'm 21 now) I was obsessed with Barry Manilow. Go figure. I loved that song!
I agree, though. I don't think it's a huge problem, though my association with the song would hold me back from using it. I see a sassy little girl. While it's not something I'd use, I don't dislike it.
