I don't think it's religious sounding.
I know many parents, especially in the UK, use Evie on its own, but I think it won't age well and is far too cutesy.
I kinda prefer Evie, but as a nn for Eve or any other Eve- or Ev- names.
I think plenty of girls named Eva, Eve, Evelyn, Evangeline, Evadne, Genevieve (my pick), Eveline, Geneva, etc etc are called Evie. Without a doubt.
It's possible Evie could be the new Maddie, but not really in the same sense. Evie doesn't have a trashy FN option like Maddie does (Madison, Maddison, Madyson, Madisyn etc)
