Bathsheba
What do you think of the name Bathsheba?

I'm content to leave it as an old, historical name.
Generally speaking, the names of Hardy's female characters just don't convince me. Bathsheba makes me think of that custom (Puritan, I think) of opening the Bible to a random page and using the first name that appeared. That's the only way I could imagine anyone actually selecting Bathsheba in real life, and even then, if it was me, I'd "accidentally" drop it and "have to" start again until I hit on something more polite like Ruth.
I love it. It has a nice sound and looks pretty when written. It is a GP though.
For a modern person? I think it's awful. Maybe there are places where it wouldn't be awful, but I think I might lol if I was introduced to a local Bathsheba.
Do you think Bathie would work as a nickname? What if you were introduced to a local Bathie? Surely there would be no loling.
On a more serious note, I'd like to add to my initial opinion that, while I like the name, I think it's too much of a mouthful not to have a nickname and I can't think of a good one, since I don't like Sheba by itself and Bathie is---well, we won't go there.

I wouldn't lol, but I might pity. Unless she was some kind of alpha female. Bathie? Urgh. Sheba would be waaaaay cooler than Bathie! IMHO.
I've always really liked it. Something tells me that I shouldn't like it, because it starts with the word "bath", but in spite of that, I do like it. I'd love to see it used.
