Kateri
Any opinions on this name? I am considering it for a character so I'd love some middle and/or surname suggestions.
Thank you!
Thank you!

I've loved Kateri for years but felt guilty because I never knew if I was pronouncing it correctly, "KATE-ery."
I did some research on-line and found a website devoted to Kateri Tikawitha (sp?), the U.S. saint. According to them, it's pronounced, "KAH-ter-ee." I felt let down because I don't really care for that.
And now I see from the two posters below me that they are pronouncing it two different ways, "KAT-ery" and "kah-TEHR-ee." Now I'm even more apprehensive.
As a combination Kateri Maya has always appealed to me. I think it's the juxtaposition of a North American fn with the name of a Central American people that does it. Or is that too cheesy?
I still love the name. I just don't know how I would say it out loud, in real life. If that doesn't bother you, and it is for a charater in a book, then I think it would make a great name for you.
Surname? How about:
Kateri Pym
Kateri Josephs (now I think I'm channeling Chief Joseph)
Kateri Olmstead
Kateri Beecham
Kateri Hawkins
Kateri Scott
Kateri Hayes
Kateri Pearsall
Kateri MacMillan
Kateri O'Dwyer
Kateri Jenkins
Kateri Lippman
Kateri Blackpool
Kateri Velasquez
Kateri Goldsmith
Kateri Halifax
Kateri Moore
Kateri St. James
Kateri Acheson
Kateri Sokolov
Kateri Granville
I got these from the index of a book. You might have one lying around that you could peruse for more ideas. :-)

If I'm pronouncing it correctly (ka-TER-ee), I really like it. It's unusual, but it doesn't seem too out there.

A cattery is where you board cats when you go on holiday, so no, I don't like the name Kateri. too close.
So how about Kadri?
:)
:)
Agreed
I agree with that. It looks interesting and I can see the appeal, but it just doesn't work for me.
