I'd guess I'd pronounce them the same, but I wouldn't want to. I don't like the Maura version, but can't say why.
I love Mara. It's simple, but lovely and feminine. I also like the Irish connection and tend to think of the 'of the sea' meaning rather than 'bitter'.
My fave combo at the moment is
Mara Rowan.
