Kaya
I think I finally found my favorite spelling of the name: Kaya
Now I'm kind of worried it will be seen as really trendy. What do you think?
I know it's kind of close to Kayla and Maya (I pronounce it KAH-ya, though).
Do you think Kaia looks less trendy? For some reason I like Kaya a lot better.
If you met someone named KAH-ya, how would you assume it was spelled? (It sounds almost identical to KY-ah when you say it out loud, probably not a noticeable difference).
If you saw the name Kaya, how would you pronounce it?
I'm hoping Kaya pronounced KAH-ya (KY-ah) will work because it's similar to Maya.

Kayak
I definitely prefer Kaya to Kaia (which somehow feels unnatural), but have to admit I prefer Kaja. My first thought would be to wonder if it was Kaja or Kaya... because Kaia looks strange to me. Because I know the name and also because I live in Japan, I would think Ky-ah, but because I'm also a native En. speaker and have seen the Kay trend, I'd tend to want to make sure some random parent didn't decide to prn. it kay-ah. Kaja is pretty automatic for mee as far as the ky-ah prn. goes though.
I think Kaya would likely be pronounced Ky-ah most often, given it's similarity to the word kayak, I think most would tend towards that. It's similarity to other names might muddy the waters a bit, with Maya (my-ah) and Taya (tay-ah) and Kayla..
I don't think the spelling alters the trend factor.
I wouldn't assume anything as far as spelling if I met someone whose name sounded like "ky-ah", b/c I've known 3, all spelled differently- Kaya, Kaia and Kya. The one who spells it Kaya is a boy, it's interesting to note.
If I saw the name Kaya, I would pronounce it Ky-ah.
One thing to consider if using this name, and I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet.. are you a Bob Marley fan? Enjoy the ganja? B/c Kaya is the name of an epic Marley album (and song), and it is also a common Jamaican slang for marijuana. Something to consider..

I can see how Kaya could to either way with pronunciation. On one hand, it's not far from Maya, so it could be MY-uh. But it's also not far from Taya, Kayla, and words like day, stay, okay, etc. So it could be KAY-uh.
As for KAH-ya, that sounds really close to KY-uh and I don't know why anyone would intuitively say KAH-ya.
I think both Kaia and Kaya look trendy.
If I met someone with that name, I would not assume a spelling. I'd ask.

Hmmm I pronounce Taya TAH-ya or TY-ah.
Oh, well bad comparison then. I pronounce it TAY-uh like Freya.
Kaya is close to Kayla and I could easily see people pronouncing it wrong. Not everyone is a name nerd and some people just lack... brain power? Lol, I don't know. I cannot count how many times I've heard Caleb be pronounced suh-LEEB. Yes, really. There are all kinds of people out there.
That being said, I think I like Kaia more. 'y' is so trendy right now. If someone said, "Hi my name is KAH-ya and blahblahblah" I would assume it'd be Kya. Mostly because I know a lot of Kya's pronounced KY-ah.
If I just glanced at Kaya, I wouldn't be surprised if my brain thought I saw Kayla just because that's the standard name. If I looked at it closely I would probably say KY-ah because of Maya but more often I'd just ask. Most people I know would pronounce it KAY-uh because that's how it looks. I'm not in a name-nerdy place. Hell, I know six pregnant women and when I asked what they're naming their babies they ALL responded, "Oh, we don't know yet. It's not really important."
&*@(^#@%#@%&*@^& Not important!! Ugh. That's my own griping though.
***Just showed this to some women: they all said Kayla until I said 'no L'. Then they said "KAY-uh" *insert annoyed eye roll at nonname nerds* lol

Yeah... I've never seen Kya either.
I think lowercase 'l's are easy to gloss over. Especially if you're already expecting them.
I think there's some actress named Kya. I don't know her last name, though. I know about eight Kya's where I am. Various ages--although oldest is late 20s I believe.
