In general I don't like the name and think it sounds a bit masculine. Better for a boy if used at all.

I apologise if this comment seems unduly harsh, but Dakota is one of those names that I wouldn't mind just not seeing anymore. I think it's boring and to use it would be disrespectful. There was another 'Dakota' post halfway down the page that touched on this issue, so I'm not going to rehash the argument here.

I don't really like it for either sex.

I love the sound, basically prefer it on a boy, but wouldn't use it...because it's considered tacky by some just on a matter of taste and disrespectful by others because it's the name of an Indian tribe. I do love place names though (especially places I'm fond of) and I love the Dakotas, so that's compelling...

I don't like it, but if it has to be used I'd prefer it on a boy.
