I have a 30-something cousin named Wesley. And I've met a 60-something man named Wesley. Both go by Wes. So, I'd say it's not too common at all.
I pronounce Wesley and Westley a little differenly. Basically, Westley makes me feel silly when Isay it because I kind of over-enunciate the t. Weird. And a little pretentious.
I don't particularly like either name. But West is really nice! I'd consider Weston nickname West. Eh? eh?
