I don't think Brandon on a woman is that ususual, considering Brandy's popularity. Her parents probably wanted a fuller name for Brandy.
Anyway, on Smith... I don't hate it, but it seems so boring to me. What can you do with Smith? I love nicknames and Smith just disappoints. Plus it's so bland in the surname department that it doesn't even register as a fn for me.
I find it funny that father is John and son is Smith. Hehe.
