Cat or Kat?
It's for a character, it will be her first name and not a nickname,
but it got me thinking what attracts me to this short and simple nickname,
and which spelling I like/love the best and prefer?
What do YOU do when like/love a name/nickname that has more than one spelling?
How do you choose which spelling you like/love the best and prefer?
Thanks! :D

I prefer Cat. Kat makes me think of Kit Kat bars, but it's fine if it's a nickname for Katherine or another Kat- name because it makes more sense to use Kat instead of Cat if the name begins with a K. Since it's her full name, I'd just go with Cat.

Do you think I should change Cat/Kat to Felicity or maybe something else?

For an animal, cat. For a person, Kat.

Different vibesKat, otherwise just as the character's full name, I'd probably picture them with feline features. It's weird, I like Katherine a little bit more than Catherine, but I like Cate more than Kate but Kat more than Cat. I'm all over the place with Katherine. Usually, when I like names like Elizabeth and Elisabeth or Elinor and Eleanore, I feel like the different spellings give off different vibes. The Z in Elizabeth makes it seems stronger while Elisabeth feels softer and more fragile. Elinor seems more victorian youth while Eleanore is more victorian grandmother, if that makes sense? This is just for me when I see them, I'm sure other people have different opinions.

Not alone.I feel the sameway about most names, too. Your Elizabeth/Elisabeth difference is spot on for me, too. Not to mention I also prefer Cate, and Katherine... haha.Kat to me seems a little more fierce,a more rough and tumble, independent person. Whereas Cat seems calmer, maybe the one to sit back and brood a bit.

Kat. I think it's stronger and more of a name. I really like Kat, but I'd use it as a nickname only. I just choose the one that looks best to me.

Kat because it feels more like a name and less like a pet

Man, I like Cat, because I like cats, and it seems so much more direct. Meow. I especially like it if it's not a nickname, because then it's just a word name. Kat tries to escape itself; Cat is a cat.http://www.marriedtothesea.com/030312/i-love-you-kitty.gif
