I love that movie and Justine is great! It is a beautiful name as well.

I like the name Justine, and I really like it with the French pronounciation. My Dad has a friend from France and his little 3 year old redheaded girl called Justine, with the French prn., just made me love the name!

I've never seen, or even heard of, Melancholia!

I'm clueless about the movie, but I've always liked the name very much indeed, for its sound and meaning. It puzzles me that it didn't get much use at all when every second male baby was suddenly a Justin - and for some reason I really don't enjoy Justin at all!

I like the name Justine, but have never seen the movie. Have to admit an automatic mental connection w/ Justine Bateman on that name.

I've never seen Melancholia, so these will have to be my pre-viewing thoughts.

Justine is elegant, sophisticated, and smart. I picture a Justine as very self-posessed, full of a sort of steely-eyed confidence, and sensual too. There's something sexy about Justine. It's a strong name.

There's no way I'll have enough daughters to ever use Justine, but it remains on my extended list, just outside of my top 10. I really love it.

As an aside, Justine is one of the rare cases where I love the feminine version of a name while really disliking the masculine form (Antonia is the other). Justin is just insipid.

I haven't seen that movie, but I had a student with the name a few years ago. She was very pretty though not an incredibly gifted student. I have always liked the name since, though.

I've never seen Melancholia. But I've loved the name Justine ever since I first read it in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

I think it is an elegant name that is not stuffy like some elegant names. It has a playful quality. It sounds both soft and crisp. A Justine seems like they could be rich or poor or middle class. I can imagine a little girl through an old woman with this name.

I like both Justine and Justina. I think I prefer Justine but they are both lovely.

As Lily mentioned I also love -ine names. My favorites are Augustine, Justine, Delphine, Maxine, Apolline and Ernestine. I like Adeline but it has a much different sound than those. I like -line names as well.

I love this name, but it *always* reminds me of the Marquis de Sade.

I haven't seen "Melancholia" and probably won't, but I can't imagine that it would change my opinion of the name Justine. I don't like it and never have. "Just" seems too strong a syllable to have in a girls' name. And I don't generally like feminine forms of male names--with the exception of Victoria, because the prominent shift of syllable emphasis between Victor and Victoria makes a huge difference, therefore, Victoria seems very feminine to me.

I think it's kind of cute. I also like Maxine. They are similar in style, a little dated but friendly. I think after decades of popular names that end in an -A sound (Amanda, Olivia, Ava etc) it is time for names ending in -ine and -e to make a comeback. In the next 20 years or so I see a comeback for names like Diane, Adrienne, Maxine, Elaine, Justine, Charlene and similar names. Oh and I didn't see the movie yet.

I know three girls named Justine. One is in her early 20s, one in her mid 30s and one in her 50s. The one in her 50s is French and pronounces it the French way.
