I've never met a Candice. A couple of Candace people, who went by Candace and pronounced it KANdis. And I was at school with a Candy Mercia Anne Lastname who was interrogated by every new teacher: WHAT was her name? Was THAT her name? Was she sure? Building up to a crescendo: "Ask your mother!" Who gave the same answer, year in, year out.
