Philian.
I came across this name a few days ago, when I discovered on Imdb.com that it is the middle name of American actor Ethan Embry (born in 1978 as Ethan Philian Randall). What are your thoughts and feelings about this name? For example, do you consider it to be a fresh alternative to the more common -ian names out there (such as Cillian)? And how would you picture the personality of a boy/man with this name?Thank you for your input. :)

When I was a child, I watched Rugrats, and the show has the twins Phil and Lil. And when they argued, they called each other by their full names (Phillip and Lillian). And I remember thinking (as a child, certainly don't think this way now), that their full names should have rhymed as well-- either Phillip and Lillip, or Lillian and Phillian).:P That was my first thought.
It's okay, I guess, but I feel like it lends itself to the nickname Philly more and I don't really care for that (like, more so than Philip would).

At first glance, I like it. It's attractive and as familiar as Philip and Julian, but it stands out a bit. It reminds me of "filial," but that's not a negative.

Honestly, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I love names ending in -ian. And it also reminds me of Phineas, which I also like. :)

I keep wanting to make it Philbin, as in Regis Philbin (if that's how he spells his surname.) My reaction: meh. There are other Ph names that excite me more. But I wouldn't be unhappy meeting one either.

It's not bad. The sounds are good. But it does seem like a slightly modified form of Philip. Any slight modification like this always expresses a need for minimal creativity and effortful uniqueness, an effect that bothers me. It could be a family surname in Embry's case. I prefer Philip.

My eyes want to read this as a blend of Philip and Ian. The meaning is lovely, if correct. I want to say the sound reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on what. I'll have to let this one simmer.
