Arthur or Basil?
Which would you choose, given the two choices?

Arthur!
It's always been a sweet, warm name to me.
Basil sounds hideous to me, unfortunately.

I want to like Arthur. I really do. It's just the sort of old fashioned, mythology type name that I usually go for. But I've never been able to really take it to heart. I'd love to meet a little Arthur one day. I love seeing any old fashioned name revived. But when you put it next to a darling like Basil the choice is clear.
I love the sound of razzle-dazzle-Basil. And the Fawlty Towers character only adds to the love.

Arthur is my second favorite male name, but I love Basil as well.

Arthur, because it is strong and knightly whereas Basil is quirky and British.
Definitely Basil. It's dashing. While I can appreciate Arthur's sophistication and dignity, I'm not too keen on the sound of the name.
Arthur
Because it's a family name. But Basil is good too.

People would not know how to pronounce Basil, I'd worry. And I think Basil seems stuffy, and that seems worse than the whininess I get from Arthur. At least Arthur brings chivalry to mind. Basil just makes me think of middle aged dorky wimpy guys. Fawlty Towers, I guess. Not enough exposure.

Arthur is too stodgy for me

I really like Arthur and have never really gotten the appeal of Basil.
I work at a daycare, and we have two kids in our infant room named Arthur and Iris, and it always reminds me of that song "Arthur, lives next door to Iris..." from The Holiday. Sorry, that got a bit off-topic.

Not super fussed on either of them, but Arthur has charm.
And while Basil is awesome in theory, it's seems like it'd be hard to pull off as a first name.

I'll go with Basil on this one. Not a fave, but not a hate and I prefer it ot Arthur.
