Re: Ciaran
in reply to a message by Jacks
Ciaran is my absolute favorite boy's name right now! I really love it, and I love the spelling Ciaran instead of Kieran for several reasons: in general I prefer C names over K names, the K spelling is fairly popular, the C spelling is the original Gaelic, the C sort of honors my dad who's name is Colin which is also Gaelic and starts with a C. 1. Do you like the sound? ~ I love the sound!2. What is your impression of it? What kind of assumptions would you make about someone with that name? ~ that they were Irish or their parents liked Irish names.3. Do you think that a little boy named Ciaran would be teased? Especially with the popularity of Kiera? ~ not at all, Irish names are very popular and I don't usually think of Kiera when I see Ciaran. So especially if you spell it Ciaran the boy wouldn't be teased at all.4. Do you think that the name Ciaran would age well? ~ perfectly, for reference see actor Ciaran Hinds who is now in his 50's and his name fits him perfectly! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001354/5. Can you think of any drawbacks/negative associations? ~ not really, I suppose Kier does rhyme with tear, sear, peer, ect. Oh, and the name does mean 'black' or you could say 'dark haired'.6. Can you think of any positive associations? ~ there were some 26 saints in Ireland with this name including St. Ciaran of Clonmacnoise who founded a monestary.7. Does the combo Ciaran George Derry sound good? ~ Ciaran George sounds nice but I don't really like Derry very much. Ciaran James, Ciaran John, and Ciaran Robert also sound nice.8. How does Ciaran fit in with Kiefer, Harrison, Liam? Are Kiefer & Ciaran too close? ~ yes, Ciaran and Kiefer are deffinately too close for brothers, but Ciaran seems to fit much better with Harrison and especially Liam! :)

I agree ...I agree with nearly everything you've said! Ciaran is also my favourite boys name! I love how it sounds, and how it's spelled (I prefer Ciaran over Kieran, although both are nice). For me, Ciaran and Kiefer are way too close as siblings. The 'kee' sound makes them too similar. Mika
