Dean and Ivy
I was playing on Nymbler with my son's names and my other favorites, and Dean and Ivy came up as suggestions. I've always liked Dean, although I've never given it any serious consideration, and Ivy used to be my top name for a girl (not sure when or why I turned away from it).
So, thoughts on Dean? How about Ivy? Any combos for either? My old Ivy combo was Ivy Margaret, but I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore.

Dean I like on other people's kids (ie. not one of my faves, but likable and not overused, so it would be kinda refreshing)... Ivy's really not appealing to me at all and feels like it's starting to move in the trendy direction. Ivy Margaret as a pair sounds very grandmothery.

I like that image for Dean. I get sort of a forest/nature vibe from it, possibly because of the Forest of Dean.
Dean Elliott, Dean Frederick, Dean Somerled, and Ivy Georgina are my favorites.

Aw. Ivy Rebecca is super sweet.
I also like Dean Oliver (though Oliver is sadly unusable for me) and Dean Alexander would be work as an honoring name.

Hate Dean, love Ivy.
I like Dane, but not Dean for some reason. I don'e like "-ean" names I guess; I also hate Jean (when it's pronunced JEEN.) Dean just strikes me as too institutional for a name.
I like Ivy because it's naturey, I like the look of the plant, I like plant names in general, and Ivy can be very mature and elegant when it wants to be.
I like Ivy with slightly dreamy names usually, like Ivy Seraphina, Ivy Cordelia, Ivy Ophelia, etc. I also like Ivy Morwen, Ivy Morwenna, Ivy Pascale, Ivy Anne, Ivy Anna, Ivy Andromeda, Ivy Branwen, Ivy Gwendolen, Ivy Gwyneth, Ivy Gwyneira, Ivy Gwenaelle, Ivy Guinevere, Ivy Elowen, Ivy Hester, Ivy Selene, Ivy Saskia, Ivy Theodosia, Ivy Lorelei,

Ooh, Ivy Pascale. I love that.
Also like Ivy Cordelia, Ivy Gwendolen, and Ivy Calista. Ivy Anne is beautifully simple and homespun. Thanks!

Dean makes me think of that annoying character on Gilmore Girls who cheated on his wife. Also it's a word and I think of Dean's list and stuff like that when I hear it. It's also kind of weak sounding. Don't like it at all. I wish it would remind me of James Dean but it doesn't. It's fine as a last name but not as a first name.
I love Ivy. It used to be my top name as well.
I like
Ivy Emmeline
Ivy Vivienne (yep, I love all the Vs)
Ivy Laura
Ivy Clementine
Ivy Madeline
Ivy Isabelle

I hadn't thought about college deans or the dean's list. You're right--it does add a kind of wordiness to Dean.
Ivy Madeline is sweet, and I love all the "pointy" letters in Ivy Isabelle.

I cannot separate Dean from Jared Padalecki (name spelling?? lol) from Gilmore Girls or, more often, Jensen Ackles from Supernatural. Jensen especially IS the name for me. Though I can grant that it isn't that bad of a name.
Ivy I adore. Love, love, love it to smithereens. I don't like Margaret, though.
I suck at making combos that other people might like... :(

I've never seen Gilmore Girls or Supernatural, so I'll have to take your word about Ackles. :)
Actually, I don't have any modern-day associations for Dean; the closest I come is Dean Martin and James Dean. Hmmm.

Argh same here!!! I liked his character at first but then he really got on my nerves so I can't like the name.
