Madeline
This name has been on my mind lately and I love it even though it's a bit 90s dated, I guess. I'm not that fond of Maddy or Maddie. I don't hate it but I'd call her by her full name.1. How do you pronounce Madeline?
2. How do you pronounce Madeleine?3. How many do you know? Is it too common?4. I prefer the MAD-eh-lyn pronunciation for Madeline. Do you think that works? I usually pronounce line as LINE (Emmeline, Rosaline, Caroline) but with Madeline I feel that it just doesn't fit.Which spelling/pronunciation is your favorite?

1 and 2. I pronounce bother Mad-eh-lyn or Mad-uh-lyn. I remember one of my aunts calling my mother Mad-uh-lane.3. Personally I knew two- my mother was named after her grandmother Madeleine who was Alsatian. On that side of the family I've found at least four or five generations bearing the name Madeleine. My father's mother was Madaline.I've never personally met anyone with the name so to me it's not too common, but maybe every girl I hear being called Maddie is really a Madeleine.4. I would think that Mad-eh-lyn for Madeline is just fine. To me, any spelling other that Madeleine just doesn't look all that right to me, but that's what happens when you grew up with that as the main spelling of the name.

1. How do you pronounce Madeline? MAD-eh-line, but I'd be prepared to be corrected.
2. How do you pronounce Madeleine? MAD-eh-len/mad-eh-LEN/mad-LEN. Again, it wouldn't surprise me to be corrected. This is one name where it's risky to assume anything about the pronunciation.3. How many do you know? Is it too common? With all the different spellings, it's pretty common. It doesn't feel as common as it did 10 years ago, though, when I swear every second baby girl had the name. 4. I prefer the MAD-eh-lyn pronunciation for Madeline. Do you think that works? I usually pronounce line as LINE (Emmeline, Rosaline, Caroline) but with Madeline I feel that it just doesn't fit. MAD-eh-lyn works fine as long as you're prepared to correct people. It's a common pronunciation. Which spelling/pronunciation is your favorite? Madeleine is the only spelling I like. I say MAD-eh-len (very close to -lyn, really) in English.

I pronounce Madeline as Mad-eh-line, because I grew up watching the tv show Madeline as a kid!I pronounce Madeleine slightly different like Mad-eh-leen.I've met only one Madeleine (pronounced Madelyn), who would be about 14 by now. I don't think it's too common at all. I prefer the Mad-eh-LINE pronunciation but I don't mind the Mad-eh-lyn pronunciation, I'd probably spell it Madelin.

1. MAD-e-line
2. MAD-e-lien
3. I don't think I know any Madeline's, though I know several Madison's.
4. I think it could work, though most people would pronounce it differently. If not, you could always spell it Madelyn.

I have actually never heard anyone pronounce Madeline as MAD-eh-line except for on these message boards. I have known several in real life and all pronounced it like Madelyn. I dislike the Madelyn spelling.

1. 'MAD-uh-lin' or 'MAD-uh-line'
2. 'MAD-uh-lin' or 'MAD-uh-layn'
3. I only know one (Madeleine). I don't think it's too common.
4. I prefer the 'MAD-uh-lin' pronounciation, which is probably similar to the one you're saying about. Personally, I don't like the 'line' ending for names, apart from in Caroline. For others (Emmeline, Rosaline), I tend to say it as 'leen' or 'lin'.

Definitely prefer Madeleine. I don't see how it's 90's dated because I haven't met anyone with the name.I pronounce Madeline like mad-uh-LINE (which i do not like)
I pronounce Madeleine like MAD-uh-lyn (love love love)I know none, so I would say it isn't common. When I see Madeline, I see made-line so I prn it mad-uh-LINE. That's why I prefer Madeleine: it looks better and it's easier to prn it my favorite way.

I pronounce both spellings to rhyme with the word, "line". My ear prefers the long "i" sound. I don't know any, though I've heard of two. Both were pronounced "line".
