And as a nickname, it's great. As a name, it's ridiculous.

Actor, Skeet Ulrich took his stage name from his childhood nickname, Skeeter, from mosquito and later shortened to Skeet. I think is real given name is Brian, if I remember correctly. Skeeter, as a nickname, feels much more masculine to me than feminine, but there are female mosquitoes and I suppose they are "skeeters" too.

My dad had a male employee named Skeeter. That was his real name. My mom, who was the bookkeeper, had to make sure for paycheck and tax purposes.

In the movie the character's real first name was Eugenia. I think Skeeter definitely works better as just a nickname.
